Office Postures You Need to Follow to Prevent Back Pains

Those who are working white collar jobs like in an office can easily relate to this problem. Sitting too long in that comfortable office chair might be the most relaxing thing there is, especially in a cool environment. But the downside of it is that it nurtures a silent killer from within.

And that silent killer stems from your posture, no less. Without you knowing it, lounging in your office chair for at least 7 hours can be detrimental to your health, particularly with your lower back. Prolonged sitting could aggravate the nerves in that area, thereby slowing down the circulation of your blood and saps your energy in the process.

So it is best that you constantly monitor your posture. Sometimes it only takes some form of discipline to be able to stay away from any back pains.

But let us determine some of the postures that you need to do and maintain in the workplace, and in turn, keep that lower back of yours in good stead. 

  •      Start uncrossing those legs – This unhealthy posture is a sure sign that you’re about to lounge in that chair unnecessarily. You may be looking relaxed in the position, but that’s more of a prelude to a back pain as it leads to slouching if unchecked. Aside from causing discomfort to your back, it can also impede proper circulation to your lower extremities.So, always place both your feet flat on the ground as soon as you hit that chair.
  •     Move more often – Flex those muscles, so you won’t be able to suffer fatigue, like having a weak abdominal muscle or worse developing a thin bone. So you need to do some mini-walks, or some stretching during breaks. Moving around also relieves tension on weight-bearing areas when in sitting position.
  •     Make sure your ears and shoulders are in line – This is a very simple practice that has been easily overlooked. The best way to do this is to secure an office chair that allows you to align that ear of yours to your busy shoulder. Or, better still, you need to consciously make an effort to sit in that position at all times. Otherwise, your sitting position is off-kilter.
  •     Think of middle back support – Office chairs that can give you mid-back support enables you to deal with back pains easily. The important thing to consider is to maintain a sturdy spine in the long run. Having these kinds of chair around minimizes the problems brought about by pampering that bad posture, resulting in a severe back pain.

These are some of the postures that allow you do away with back pains, despite burying yourself with work. If you can follow these routines on a daily basis, then there’s no need for you to experience the discomfort that back pains can give.
